A man in his 40s has been arrested and a firearm seized in Co Dublin by gardaí investigating organised crime.
Gardaí attached to the Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Emergency Response Unit stopped a vehicle in the Shankill area of south Dublin yesterday evening.
The man was subsequently arrested, and a Mach type machine pistol seized.
The man is being detained in a garda station on the south side of Dublin.
Speaking following the seizure, Detective Chief Superintendent Angela Willis said the seizure of such firearms and the arrest of those prepared to use them remains a priority.
She said gardaí remain totally committed to detecting and disrupting those involved in organised crime and bringing them before the courts.
