A fire that severely damaged part of a primary school in north Dublin yesterday is not being treated as suspicious, gardaí have said.

The board of management of Scoil Chaitríona Cailíní in Coolock is expected to meet to examine options for accommodating the estimated 200 pupils from the senior part of the school whose classrooms were destroyed in the blaze.

Putting prefabs on the site and using classrooms in nearby schools are among the options being explored.

The junior and senior parts of the school are to remain closed for the rest of the week.

A number of classrooms on the first floor were gutted in yesterday morning's blaze and the roof of the senior part of the school collapsed.

A local resident alerted Dublin Fire Brigade after seeing smoke coming from the school, which is located off the Malahide Road near Mask Avenue.

The fire service said it brought the blaze under control in a short space of time.

One local resident was taken to hospital as a precaution as a result of smoke inhalation.
