Bomb squad called over Civil War grenade in Dublin

A Civil War era grenade has been made safe in Dublin after the army bomb squad was called to investigate a suspect device.

Earlier this afternoon, gardaí called the Army Bomb Disposal Team to investigate a device in Malahide. The team arrived on he scene at 12.15pm.

Nearby buildings were evacuated during the operation and a cordon was established.

The Civil War era Mills grenade was identified, made safe and removed for disposal at a safe location.

The operation was finished shortly before 1pm.

The Defence Forces advises members of the public who encounter suspicious items or hazardous substances to maintain a safe distance and call the gardaí.
