Eleven motorbikes and two cars were seized by gardaí in the Finglas and Cabra areas of Dublin on Christmas morning.

The seizures were a result of a garda operation targeting the illegal use of scrambler bikes, quads and mopeds on roads in the area.

Gardaí say two of the seized bikes are confirmed to be stolen.

Five people have also been arrested.

Follow-up operations are expected in the coming days, with gardaí set to analyse CCTV footage.

Recently there have been increased calls for more stringent legislation for dealing with quad bikes and scramblers in urban areas.

The garda operation in the Finglas area included visits by community gardaí to schools to warn about the dangers they pose.
