The issue of nude bathing at a beach in south county Dublin is to be raised at the next meeting of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council following protests from local residents.

Three large signs are to be put up at the Hawk Cliff bathing area in Dalkey warning the public they may encounter nude bathers.

At least 40 residents living around the Vico Road area have since signed a petition calling on the council to reverse the decision to erect the signs.

However, the residents are worried that the signs will make the area a "magnet for exhibitionists" and say the publicity around the signage has already led to "lewd acts within view of residents' homes".

The Irish Naturist Association has welcomed the planned signs, having lobbied the council earlier in the year to put them up.
