An investigation is under way into an assault in Dublin during which a man had his ear severed.
Gardaí were called to a flat at Whitefriar Gardens in the south inner city at around 9.50am.
It is understood a row had broken out and a man in his 40s was stabbed during the altercation.
He was taken to St James's Hospital where his condition is described as stable.
Part of the man's ear was severed during the row and was found nearby.
Gardaí at Kevin Street are appealing for information and have asked witnesses to come forward.
