A 43-unit development to house older people will be completed next year as part of the Dolphin House regeneration project.
The development was originally scheduled to be the last part of the project but was brought forward following a partnership agreement between the housing association FOLD, Dublin City Council and the Department of Housing.
A sod-turning ceremony today was attended by Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy, Lord Mayor Micheál Mac Donncha as well as local residents.
The existing blocks of accomodation for older residents will be demolished.
Elsewhere in the estate the first tranche of new housing - 100 apartments and houses - will be ready in July.
