Lidl has said its store in Fortunestown, Tallaght in Dublin will be demolished after it was bulldozed and burgled during the snow storm last week.

Staff based there are to be redeployed to other stores in the area.

However, Lidl Ireland said a team of engineers and consultants have completed their assessment of the damage caused to the store and based on their recommendations, they have decided to demolish the remainder of the building in the interests of health and safety.

They company said it has yet to make a final decision on future plans for the site.

Lidl said that it will offer a free daily shuttle bus to its Fortunestown customers, on a first-come-first-served basis, to its shop on Whitestown Way in Tallaght starting at 10.30am on Friday.

Six men have appeared in court charged in connection with the incident on 2 March.

They have been released on bail to appear in court again later this month.
