A man had a near miss on the M50 motorway in Dublin last Thursday when a metre-long piece of metal went through his windscreen.

Jason Piggot told RTÉ Radio 1's Liveline the metal came off a truck that was carrying cars in front of him.

He said it bounced off his car bonnet before smashing through the windscreen and impaling itself on the back seat between two child booster seats.

Mr Piggot was on his own in his car but said he dreaded to think what would have happened if his kids were in the back.

He said the truck pulled in before driving away.
