Gardaí are investigating the circumstances following the discovery of a woman's body in Rathmines, Co Dublin.

The body of the woman, who was in her 40s, was found at about 12.30pm this afternoon at a flat on Rathmines Avenue.

Gardaí have said the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and that the body remains at the scene which is currently preserved.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out tomorrow morning.

Gardaí have said the results of the examination will determine the course of their investigation,
