Van caught speeding three times over 90 minutes in Dublin Tunnel

Gardaí enforcing the new average speed limit in the Port Tunnel in Dublin have caught one van driver speeding three times in a 90-minute period. 

The van driver now faces a minimum of nine penalty points and €240 in fines. The penalties could be much higher if the cases go to court.

The Port Tunnel average speed enforcement system has been in operation for the past month and garda figures show an average of 50 speeding offences a day.

The highest recorded speed for one vehicle was 132km/hr. 

The speed limit is 80km/hr.
