More than 50 lives have been saved and almost 100 people jailed as a result of investigations into crimes connected to the Hutch-Kinahan feud, gardaí have said.

It is ten years since the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Dublin.

Although five people have been convicted in connection with the attack, none of the six gunmen have been convicted.

The head of the garda’s Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau has acknowledged there was a failure of intelligence around the attack, but said that they are continuing to pursue senior figures in both organised crime groups.

David Byrne was the third victim of the feud between the Hutch and Kinahan gangs, but his murder escalated that feud which resulted in the murders of 18 people.

Gardaí say 98 people from both gangs have been convicted and jailed to date, and 51 lives have been saved through interventions.

€32 million worth of drugs, over €11 million in cash, 70 firearms and 4,300 rounds of ammunition have also been recovered.

Five people have been jailed for their roles in the murder of David Byrne.

Gerard Hutch was found not guilty of the murder, but Spanish authorities say he remains under criminal investigation and that charges against him for alleged money laundering are still being considered.

The head of the Garda's Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau described the Regency as a terrorist attack, and accepted there had been a failure of garda intelligence that day.

Detective Chief Superintendent Séamus Boland said the investigation is ongoing and files in relation to the Kinahan gang leadership are with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
