A 64-year-old Estonian man who was wanted on foot of a European Arrest Warrant has been extradited from Ireland to Lithuania.
Gardaí said that the arrest warrant for Imre Arakas was issued by authorities in Lithuania in relation to an incident in 2015.
Arakas was surrendered to Lithuanian authorities at Dublin Airport earlier today. Last November, the High Court ordered that he be extradited.
Arakas was brought to Ireland by the Kinahan organised crime group five years ago to murder a rival Hutch gang member.
He was suspected to have acted as a mercenary and supplied guns to an organised gang involved in the murder of a Lithuanian pop star's lover in 2015.
Arakas opposed his extradition to Lithuania, claiming the authorities there had "changed the narrative" in their description of the charges.
The State had written to authorities in Lithuania to clarify what exactly Arakas was wanted for in their bid to extradite him over the murder of a man there.
Mr Justice Paul Burns dismissed Arakas' objections and ordered his extradition.
Arakas, whose last address was in Sopruse, Tallinn, Estonia, is to face several charges, including a count of murder, as well as firearms and conspiracy-related charges in relation to the shooting of Deimantas Bugavicius in November 2015.
The 26-year-old was shot 12 times as he drove from his Kaunas home in a Mercedes car in front of the Lithuanian pop star Vita Jakutiene, with whom he was in relationship.
Arakas was jailed by the Special Criminal Court for six years in December 2018, after he admitted to conspiring with others to murder James 'Mago' Gately in Northern Ireland between 3 and 4 April 2017.
He has completed that sentence and was remanded in custody pending his extradition to Lithuania or further proceedings.
