Gardaí are appealing for two drivers who may have witnessed a shooting in Drogheda today to come forward.

They say up to eight shots were fired at a house at Hardmans Gardens area this afternoon.

A 36-year-old man was injured in the attack and he remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

He sustained gunshot wounds to his shoulder and legs.

Gardaí now want to speak to the drivers of a navy coloured taxi and a white rigid lorry with "Tipperary Water" written on the side of it.

The drivers of these vehicles were behind a Red Volkswagen Golf from which shots were fired at around 4.20pm.

The Golf, with a false number plate 191 D 31786, was later found burnt out on Rathmullen Road.

Gardaí are asking anyone who may have noticed this car's movements today to come forward.

Superintendent Andy Watters of Drogheda Garda Station said he is surprised there weren't more casualties, given the area is so busy.

A number of people were in the house at the time of the shooting.
