Men are more likely to be victims of homicide and assault, while women are more likely to be victims of sexual violence, according to statistics released by the CSO.
Figures show 77% of homicide victims and 59% of assault victims last year were male.
However, more than four out of every five victims of sex crime (82%) are women.
A quarter of all sexual assaults reported to the gardaí last year took place ten or more years ago. Four out of five of those crimes occurred in childhood.
Most of the victims of assault and related offences, almost two thirds, are aged between 18 and 44.
Today's figures are published under reservation meaning the Central Statistics Office still has concerns about the quality of An Garda Síochána’s recorded data.
