An investigation is under way following a petrol bomb attack on a private car belonging to a garda in Dundalk, Co Louth, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Gardaí are following a number of lines of inquiry in relation to the incident.

The window of the car was broken and petrol was used in the attack, which took place around 3.30am in the Red Barns Road area of the town.

Speaking on LMFM, Chief Superintendent for Louth Christy Mangan described the incident as "sinister".
