Robberies and sexual offences have increased in the first half of this year when compared to last year, according to the latest CSO crime figures published today.
The number of robberies increased 15% from 2,032 to 2,339, while the number of sexual offences rose by 10.2% from 2,675 to 2,947.
The figures also show an increase in recorded crime across most categories, showing a 10% increase in weapons and explosives offences.
Offences against Government, which include the organisation of crime, and breaches of bail and domestic violence orders are up over 13%.
The largest reduction is in kidnapping and related offences, which are down over 18%.
The figures are published again "under reservation" because of issues in relation to the quality of the garda data from its PULSE database.
Statistician Olive Loughnane said: "The categorisation of Recorded Crime statistics as Statistics Under Reservation will remain in place until the CSO is satisfied that the level of accuracy and completeness of the underlying data is of sufficient quality."
Gardaí said: "We are working to ensure our data quality is of a sufficient level for the CSO to remove the reservation designation."
They said they were in "regular contact with the CSO to inform them of our progress", adding that "crime trends are kept under constant review in order to put strategies in place to prevent and detect key crimes".
