Two people have been arrested following armed burglaries at the homes of two elderly people in Co Cavan.
Two intruders broke into the home of a woman in her 70s in Ballyjamesduff shortly after 7pm last night and threatened her at gunpoint.
They took jewellery and a quantity of cash before breaking into a second house nearby minutes later.
There they threatened a man in his 90s and stole a sum of cash.
Neither homeowner was physically injured during the robberies, but both received medical assessments and treatment.
The alarm was raised following the two robberies and gardaí intercepted a car in Virginia.
A man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s were arrested and taken to Bailieboro Garda Station where they are being held.
Some of the property taken has been recovered.
