16 people have been charged following an operation by gardaí targeting organised crime in Co Kilkenny.

55 people were arrested over the past three days in the operation, which involved officers with the support of the Regional Armed Response unit.

Gardaí carried out 19 searches at premises across the county as part of Operation Storm.

Checkpoints were also carried out in the villages of Ballycallan, Tullaroan, Castlecomer, Urlingford, Ballyragget, Castlecomer and the approach roads to Kilkenny city.

The arrests were for a range of offences, including theft, assault, fraud, robbery, burglary and possession of drugs.

27 people were held at garda stations in Kilkenny, Thomastown, Athy and Clonmel.
