Fresh appeal for information over pensioner murder in 2009

A fresh appeal has been launched for information over the murder of a pensioner in Co Kildare eight years ago.

Michael Crowe, 81, died in a house fire on 4 October 2009 at Páirc Mhuire in Newbridge.

The fire broke out in the Crowe family home at around 6am that morning.

Mr Crowe's family, who were also in the house, managed to escape. However he was unable to do so and subsequently died.

Gardaí have taken nearly 700 statements since the incident.

Speaking at Newbridge Garda Station, Inspector Mel Smyth said: "Today we are again seeking the assistance from any member of the public who may have any information which may assist in this investigation into the murder of Michael Crowe.

"We would appeal in particular to anyone who may have been in or around Páirc Mhuire estate on the morning of Sunday 4th October, 2009 between 2am and 6am to contact us.

"All information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and we urge anyone who has any information even if they believe it to be insignificant or trivial to get in contact with us."
