A Garda has been charged with disclosing information relating to a warrant in the knowledge it was likely to have a harmful effect.

Detective Inspector Brian Roberts appeared before Dublin District Court yesterday afternoon.

The 51-year-old is the fifth man to be charged following a probe by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal

Investigation into alleged Organised Crime activity since 2021.

Detective Inspector Mark Watters from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation told the court he arrested Mr Roberts at 1.02pm yesterday afternoon at Kilmainham Garda Station.

He charged Brian Roberts with one count of disclosing confidential information to another person relating to a warrant on the 10 October 2018.

It is alleged he disclosed information "obtained in the course of carrying out your duties in your office or employment, knowing that the disclosure of said information was likely to have a harmful effect".

Det Insp Watters said Mr Roberts reply after caution was "I've done absolutely nothing wrong, the truth will come out".

Judge Michèle Finan was told there was no objection to bail provided he abides by a number of conditions.

He was granted bail on his own bond of €1,000 with no cash lodgement of money required.

Det Insp Watters said the DPP had directed the case should be dealt with on indictment in a higher court.

The 51-year-old must appear in court again on the 15 June when a book of evidence is expected to be served.

The court reserved a decision on legal aid and Judge Finan ordered that Mr Roberts address not be published.

Three other garda officers and a retired superintendent were arrested and brought before the courts in recent days.
