A 35-year-old man has admitted murdering his daughter and attempting to murder her mother at their home in Wexford last year.

Mohammed Al Shaker Al Tamimi, with an address of Lower William Street, New Ross, Co Wexford, pleaded guilty today to the murder of eight-year-old Malika Noor Al Kattib and the attempted murder of her mother Aisha Noor Al Kattib on Sunday 1 December 2024.

The mother and child were attacked and stabbed in the house and the child sustained fatal injuries

Prosecuting counsel Anne Rowland told the court today that the victim will be in a position to make a victim impact statement in December.

She said she "was not feeling very strong at the moment" even though the court was in a position to give an earlier date for the sentence hearing.

Defence counsel Michael Bowman said all matters had been explained to Al Tamini and although an interpreter had been provided, his English was very good.

He also asked that all medical attention continue to be provided to him in custody.

The 35 year old confirmed his name and replied guilty after each charge was put to him.

Mr Justice Paul McDermott remanded Al Tamimi in custody for sentencing on 15 December when the victim impact statement will also be heard.

He faces the mandatory sentence of life in prison.
