Seven men have gone on trial at the Central Criminal Court accused of multiple counts of rape against a deaf complainant over a 17 year period.
One of the men is also charged with rape and sexual assault in relation to two of the woman's sisters.
They face a total of 103 charges, alleged to have taken place between 1996 and 2013, beginning when the woman was a young child.
The men, who are aged between 32 and 55, have pleaded not guilty.
Three of the accused are the woman’s uncles while the other four defendants are her brothers.
The trial is expected to last four months and is being heard by an expanded jury panel of 15.
None of the accused can be named because of the nature of the charges they face. Reporting restrictions are in place to protect the identity of the complainants.
Prosecuting counsel Gerardine Small told the jurors that they must approach the case in a cold clinical manner, without emotion or prejudice.
She explained that the main complainant, who is profoundly deaf, will be assisted in giving her evidence by two Irish Sign Language interpreters.
She will also be assisted by an intermediary and will give her evidence by video link from another location.
Ms Small said the offending took place in different locations in the country. She said a garda investigation began after the complainant attended a sexual health course in 2017 and told a social worker about sexual abuse at the hands of certain family members.
Ms Small said that a significant period of time had elapsed since the offences were alleged to have occurred. She told the jurors they would receive a warning from the judge about this and they had to be all the more cautious in a case such as this.
The first man, who will be referred to as Accused A, is 55 and has pleaded not guilty to one count of rape.
The second man, Accused B, 48, has pleaded not guilty to eight counts, including rape, anal rape and oral rape.
Accused C is 34 and pleaded not guilty to 34 counts including rape and sexual assault of the woman. He has also denied the anal rape of her sister and the rape and sexual assault of another sister.
Accused D, 33, pleaded not guilty to 21 counts including rape and anal rape.
Accused E, 32, pleaded not guilty to 16 counts of rape and anal rape.
Accused F, also 32, pleaded not guilty to five counts including rape, anal rape and oral rape.
The final accused, Accused G, is 45 and pleaded not guilty to one count of raping the woman.
