A jury has been sworn in for the trial of a man charged with the seizure of €8.4m worth of cocaine which was flown into the midlands over three years ago.
Michal Luczak, 44, formerly of Primrose Avenue, Jigginstown, Naas, Co Kildare, now of The Davitt, Dublin 12, has pleaded not guilty to four charges arising out the alleged transportation of 120kg of cocaine into Abbeyshrule Aerodrome in Co Longford on 4 August 2022.
Prosecutor Cathal Ó Braonáin BL told Mullingar Circuit Court that trial will hear from 50 witnesses.
They include gardaí from the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the garda national surveillance unit, the scenes of crime unit and the mapping section.
Witnesses from Forensic Science Ireland, the Irish Aviation Authority, as well as other civilians, will all be called during the trial.
Mr Luczak was in court today as the jury was sworn in.
Judge Roderick Maguire told the jury of eight men and four women that the trial, which will begin tomorrow, is expected to last up to four weeks.
He cautioned jurors about coverage of the case and urged them to avoid reading about it.
Judge Maguire also warned the jury members to avoid discussing the case outside the courtroom.
