A 23-year-old man charged in connection with an attack in Dublin city centre in July, during which a garda was stabbed, has been further charged with arson and terrorist offences.
Abdullah Khan, whose address cannot be published by order of the court, was brought before Cloverhill District Court today to face five additional charges.
Two of those charges are alleged terrorist offences and relate to an attack on a garda on 29 July in Dublin city centre and an arson attack at Conor McGregor's pub, The Black Forge Inn in Drimnagh, four days earlier, on 25 July this year.
The court was told that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that Mr Khan be tried before the Special Criminal Court.
Two gardaí gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution at Cloverhill District Court.
Detective Sergeant Liam McLoughlin, from Bridewell Garda Station, told the court that Mr Khan made no reply when charged with two of the additional offences shortly before today's hearing, endangerment of life and the attempted assault of a second garda at Capel Street, on 29 July.
Sergeant Eamonn O'Neill from the Special Detective Unit told the court that he charged the accused with the three other offences at 10.24am and that Mr Khan made no reply.
One of the additional charges relates to the alleged criminal damage over a fire at the Black Forge Inn on 25 July.
The other two are under Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences Act) 2005, for allegedly engaging in terrorist activity or terrorist linked activity, during the alleged arson on 25 July and knife attack four days later.
Judge Alan Mitchell noted there was no application for bail and directed that reporting restrictions on the defendant's address would be continued for public safety reasons, "and the safety of other persons not related to this".
There was no application for legal aid but the judge said he would note that such an application was being deferred.
Mr Khan was already facing two charges, assault causing harm to a garda and the production of a Tactix knife capable of causing serious injury, and today's additional charges bring to seven the total number he is now facing.
He was remanded in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court next week.
