A 31-year-old man has appeared at Nenagh District Court charged in connection with an incident in Tipperary town on Friday night.
Sean Harding, with an address at Marian Terrace in Tipperary town, was brought before Nenagh District Court accused of assault and burglary.
He was charged with three counts of burglary, and one count of assault causing harm.
Detective Conor Gleeson, of Cashel Garda Station, said the man replied "No" when the charges were put to him.
Teddy Murnane, who was in his 80s, was found outside his home on St Michael's Avenue shortly after 9.30pm.
He was taken by ambulance to Limerick University Hospital and gardaí had described his condition as critical.
This morning, gardaí said the man had since died.
Solicitor Colin Morrissey applied for legal aid, which was granted.
There was no application for bail and Judge Fiona Brennan ordered the man receive all necessary medical attention on his arrival to prison.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Thurles District Court on 17 September via video link.
