Man, 76, pleads guilty to sexual offences against two girls

A 76-year-old man who is accused of historic sexual assault offences against two young girls more than 50 years ago, has pleaded guilty at Dundalk Circuit Court.

The defendant, who cannot be identified, admitted two counts of indecent assault in Co Louth, on a date unknown between 5 May and 4 November 1973.

The court heard that the guilty pleas were being entered on the basis that the counts that post-date 1980 will be taken into consideration and a third count will be put to the defendant in due course.

Judge Dara Hayes directed that victim impact statements be prepared.

The accused's Senior Counsel told the court his client is 76 years old and has no previous convictions, the judge also directed the preparation of a probation report.

Judge Hayes then remanded the defendant on continuing bail for sentencing on 14 November next.
