A convicted rapist has had his prison sentence increased for not informing authorities that he was a sex offender.
Randi Gladstone was deported from the UK and jailed at the Central Criminal Court earlier this year for a rape that he committed in Dublin in 2023.
The 41-year-old, formerly from Guyana, raped, sexually assaulted and falsely imprisoned a young woman, having only been in Ireland for two weeks.
He was found guilty by a jury last March of one count of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of false imprisonment in "budget accommodation" in south Dublin on 25 August 2023.
Gladstone has 19 previous convictions from the UK for offences including rape, kidnapping, robbery and false imprisonment.
Mr Justice Paul McDermott said that he failed to notify gardaí that he was a sex offender within seven days, as is required by law.
Gladstone did not inform An Garda Síochána that he had a significant history of sexual offending in the UK, the judge said, before committing the rape.
Mr Justice McDermott noted that Gladstone is serving a significant sentence but "that is not what he is being sentenced for today".
Failure to register as a sex offender carries a maximum prison sentence of five years, the judge noted.
He said that Gladstone was "not really appreciating his obligations to register ... but that doesn't cut it."
He pleaded guilty to the offence last week.
Noting the guilty plea, the judge imposed a six-month sentence - to be served consecutively - as Gladstone offended "within a number of days of arriving in this country".
This means that he will have to serve six months on top of the sentence imposed on him on 14 March.
