Suspended sentence for 'Gucci Gang' leader over Finglas street fight

A man named in the High Court as the leader of a north Dublin organised crime group known as "The Gucci Gang" has been sentenced for his involvement in a street fight with a rival criminal gang in Finglas.

Glen Ward was given an 18-month suspended sentence for violent disorder and possession of a weapon on Cardiffsbridge Road in August 2022.

He is serving five-and-a-half years for separate firearms offences.

His brother, Eric O'Driscoll, recieved a 12-month suspended sentence for his role in the fight.

He was also given an extra six months in prison for dangerous driving on a motorcycle following a garda chase in November 2021.

The violence in Finglas broke out on 9 August 2022.

Topless and wielding a bicycle saddle, Ward - also known 'Mr Flashy' - and O'Driscoll were seen threatening and fighting other young men.

They were also armed with a pole and a garden fork.

O'Driscoll had gone to the shops on a message for his mother when he was approached by four rival gang members and the fight started.

Detective Garda Dwayne O'Brien told the court by the time the gardai arrived, the groups had dispersed, but they were able to source CCTV footage and both men pleaded guilty.

The detective accepted that there had been a prior incident and that Ward and his brother had not started the fight.

They are already serving sentences handed down in the Special Criminal Court earlier this year for gun offences after they both fired an AR semi-automatic rifle at a house party in front of a group of young people on New Year's Day 2022.

Judge Elva Duffy described the street fight as " a terrifying incident for anyone present".

Ward apologised to the community and the court heard he was in the gym daily and keeping his head down in prison.

O'Driscoll was also jailed for six months for a separate offence in 2021 where he sped through Finglas on a black Honda motorcycle while being pursued by gardaí.

He drove up on the footpath, narrowly missing a family walking, and into Barry Drive where he abandoned the bike and hid behind a garden wall.

However, the Garda helicopter followed him and directed the armed support unit where to arrest him.

The court was told that O'Driscoll was emotional that day because he had just attended a memorial service for another friend and gang member who had accidentally shot and killed himself while recording a social media video.
