Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes has been deemed suitable for a community service order and is engaging with probation services, Limerick Circuit Court has heard.

The case of Hayes, from Kildimo, Co Limerick, was up for mention after being adjourned in March to see if he was suitable for 180 hours of community service instead of facing a three-month jail term.

A two-year suspended sentence had been imposed on the 26-year-old in 2024 after he was found guilty by a jury of engaging in violent disorder outside a nightclub in October 2019.

He had denied the charges during a trial in March of last year.

He was ordered to be of good behaviour and bound to the peace for two years as part of the conditions of that suspended sentence - conditions which were broken when he engaged in dangerous driving in Mallow in July of last year and was brought before the District Court in Cork.

However, before any sentence was imposed, the matter was adjourned to allow Hayes to engage with the Probation Service to check his suitability for community service in lieu of a sentence.

Limerick Circuit Court heard Hayes had met and fully engaged with the Probation Service and that 180 hours of community work was being arranged.

The case was adjourned to 19 May before Judge Daragh Hayes to finalise the matter.
