The widow of a man murdered at a restaurant in Blanchardstown in December 2023 has appeared in court charged in connection with a garda investigation into organised crime in west Dublin.

Veronica Maher, 54, with an address at Sheephill Avenue, Corduff in west Dublin, is accused of money laundering, threatening to kill a garda and setting a large XL Bully dog on gardaí on patrol in the area.

Ms Maher, the widow of Jason Hennessy, who was shot dead in a gang-related attack at the Steakhouse Restaurant in Blanchardstown on Christmas Eve 2023, was brought before Blanchardstown District Court this morning.

She was arrested after gardaí searched a house in west Dublin yesterday as part of an investigation into organised crime.

Ms Maher is charged with intentionally or recklessly letting a large, restricted breed - XL Bully Pit Bull - from the garden of her home last Friday, causing gardaí who were on patrol in the area to flee as it chased them.

She is charged with possession of a marked €10 note yesterday, which was used as part of an undercover garda operation to buy illegal drugs from the back of the house and with threatening to kill Garda Joseph Doherty.

She is also accused of possessing €1,350 in cash of various denominations alleged to be the proceeds of crime contrary to the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act.

Sergeant Michael Harkin told the court that Ms Maher was arrested at her home at 12.06pm yesterday and subsequently charged with the offences.

He also said there was consent to bail on two conditions: that she have no restricted breed of dogs in her home; and that the back door of her property be used for emergency access only and not to facilitate the sale and supply of drugs.

Her solicitor Simon Fleming said Ms Maher was currently on disability and they were awaiting directions from the DPP.

Judge David McHugh remanded her on bail on her own bond of €100 to appear again in Blanchardstown District Court on 22 July.

Kayleigh McEntee (L) and Jade Hennessy (R) leaving court

Ms Maher's daughter, 32-year-old Jade Hennessy, who also lives at the house on Sheepville Avenue and 26-year-old Kayleigh McEntee from Waterville Row in Blanchardstown, were also brought before the court.

Ms Hennessy is charged with possession of cocaine with intent to supply and money laundering €1,575, while Ms McEntee is accused of laundering €6,825.

All the offences are alleged to have taken place at the home on Sheephill Avenue.

The court heard both were unemployed and were granted free legal aid.

They both were also remanded on bail to appear again before Blanchardstown District Court in July.
