The country's most prolific sex offender, John McClean, who is serving a prison sentence for the abuse of 45 boys, has been convicted of abusing another four teenagers.
The 80-year-old is serving a global sentence of ten and a half years for abusing the boys, all of whom were students at Terenure College.
A former rugby coach and teacher at the Dublin secondary school, McClean was sentenced today to another two years but will not spend any more time in prison.
The judge said he was constrained by a ruling in a higher court in the case, which prohibited him from imposing any additional jail time on him.
McClean is a recidivist paedophile who sexually abused at least 45 boys over three decades from the 1970s to the 1990s.
He was sentenced to another two years in prison for abusing four more boys.
The victims came forward following the media coverage of his previous offences.
The details of his modus operandi and offending are similar to the other abuse cases, where he targeted, isolated and preyed on children in the college
He is now the country's most prolific sex offender as he has been convicted of abusing more children than anyone else in the history of the State.
McClean joined the teaching staff at Terenure College in 1966 when he was 21 years of age. He abused his first child in 1971 and continued to abuse children until 1993.
A predatory paedophile, McClean patrolled the corridors and the classrooms looking for victims.
He targeted vulnerable children and those involved in sports, bringing boys aged 12 to 17 to various offices and changing rooms to indecently assault and sexually abuse them.
He told them he needed to treat their sports injuries or check their development. His nickname was 'The Doc'.
McClean was a tall, strong and powerful presence and used his physical strength to restrain and sexually abuse children.
He operated in plain sight and also faced down the few adults who tried to stop him.
One teacher who tried to stop him removing a boy from her Irish class to abuse him had her protestations ignored.
Judge Martin Nolan said McClean was in a position of trust and "took advantage of his position to molest and sexually assault these particular pupils".
He said McClean had pleaded guilty on previous occasions to other sexual offending and the Court of Appeal had indicated an appropriate sentencing range of eight and a half to ten and a half years for his "global misbehaviour" against all of the boys.
He said the Court of Appeal has "said to this court, and any court in future, that we can't go beyond that ten-and-a half-year sentence".
He said the court was "constrained by that direction", which it respected.
The judge said the court was grateful to the four complainants for coming forward and commended gardaí for their investigation.
He sentenced McClean to another two years in prison for the offences against the four boys to run consecutive with his first jail sentence of eight years, which means McClean will not serve any additional time in prison for these offences.
