Man charged in connection with death of grandmother in Cork

A 38-year old man has been before the district court in Cork, charged with assault causing harm to his grandmother.

Stella Nnamdi, 82, died on Tuesday at Cork University Hospital after an incident at her home in Co Cork on Sunday.

Ms Nnamdi was originally from Nigeria. She lived with her daughter at Garrydhu Drive, a housing estate in Carrigaline. They had lived there for more than 15 years.

Brian Nnamdi Ogbo, 38, of Garrydhu Drive, Kilmoney Road, Carrigaline, was brought to court where he faced a single charge of assault causing harm to Stella Nnamdi on Sunday.

Detective Garda Tom Delaney told the court Brian Ogbo did not reply when he put the charge to him at 10.26pm last night.

Judge Mary Dorgan refused bail and remanded him in custody for a week.
