A 59-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with the Hutch-Kinahan feud murder of Jamie Tighe Ennis seven-and-a-half years ago.

John Farrell, from Rialto Cottages in Dublin, is accused of helping a criminal gang by buying a car used in the murder.

He was remanded in custody for a week.

Jamie Tighe Ennis, 24, was shot dead on Moatview Avenue, Priorswood in Dublin on 28 October 2017. He was the 14th victim of the ongoing Hutch-Kinahan feud.

The father-of-one was walking home from a nearby pub with a group of friends when he was shot twice in the head by a gunman at around 2.20am.

Mr Farrell was arrested by detectives from the north Dublin crime division.

He is accused of enhancing the ability of a criminal organisation by buying and keeping a 2000 registered car between 13-18 October 2017 so that it could be used, and was later, used in the murder of Mr Tighe Ennis.

The offence is under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 and under organised crime legislation can only be granted in the High Court.

He is the first person to be charged in connection with the murder.

Detective Sergeant Domhnall O’Connell, from Clontarf Garda Station, gave evidence of arrest charge and caution.

He told the court that he arrested John Farrell in Rialto Cottages at 11.30am this morning and when he was charged at 1.30pm he made no reply.

He also said the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed trial on indictment which means the case will go to a higher court but does not require the Special Criminal Court.

Defence solicitor said Mr Farrell intended to apply for bail at the High Court.

Judge Deirdre Gearty remanded him in custody to appear again in court next Tuesday.
