The wife of former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson has asked a court to strike out two charges she faces, linked to the sex offences case involving her husband.

Eleanor Donaldson is facing five charges including aiding and abetting Mr Donaldson.

He is accused of a series of sexual offences, including a count of rape.

Last September, 58-year-old Eleanor Donaldson pleaded not guilty to three of the charges.

Her defence team made an application to have two other charges withdrawn.

It was heard today at Newry Crown Court.

Both Ms Donaldson and the former DUP leader were present for today's proceedings.

There were several hours of legal submissions by Ms Donaldson's barrister, Ian Turkington KC.

Prosecution counsel Rosie Walsh KC made detailed counter submissions

Judge Paul Ramsey said he would deliver his decision next week.

The trial date has already been fixed for late March.

Mr Donaldson, 62, has pleaded not guilty to 18 sex offence charges, including one count of rape, four counts of gross indecency and 13 charges of indecent assault.

The offences are alleged to have occurred between 1985 and 2008 and involve two alleged victims.
