Married couple charged with laundering millions refused bail

A married couple who have been charged with laundering millions of euro, have been remanded in custody after being refused bail.

35-year-old Jixu Wang and and 34-year-old Ye Wang with an address at the Ceders, Avoca Road, Blackrock were brought before Judge John Campbell at the Dublin District Court, charged with Section 7 of the Criminal Justice Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act 2010.

Detective Garda Barry Cusack of the Dublin East Ecomonic Crime Unit told the court that the couple were arrested on Tuesday following a search of their apartment and were brought to Blackrock Garda Station.

The court heard it was part of an international investigation involving Europol and police from a number of European countries.

Gardaí, CAB and Europol members all took part in the search in Blackrock, south Dublin

Det Garda Cusack said that he charged Mr Wang at 8.56pm yesterday evening and Mr Wang made no reply after caution.

Detective Garda Steven Dunican of Blackrock Garda Station told the court that Ms Wang also made no reply after arrest, charge and caution.

Gardaí objected to bail in both cases, citing the seriousness of the charge.

Judge Campbell refused bail and remanded Mr Wang in custody to Cloverhill Prison and Ms Wang to Mountjoy Female Prison.

They are both due to appear in court again on Wednesday.
