The jury in the trial of barrister, law lecturer and farmer, Diarmuid Phelan, who is accused of murder, has been watching dashcam and mobile phone footage from the day a man was shot on his farm.
Mr Phelan, 56, denies the murder of 35-year-old Keith Conlon at Hazelgrove Farm, a former golf club on Kiltalown Lane in Tallaght on 22 February 2022.
Mr Phelan claims he fired his gun in self defence and that Mr Conlon was hit accidentally. The prosecution claims Mr Phelan intended to kill or cause serious injury.
The jury heard evidence from Detective Garda Dara Kelly who gave evidence of compiling the footage.
The jury watched seven segments of footage, six of which came from a dashcam on a buggy - driven mainly by Mr Phelan. The other segment was a short video downloaded from Mr Conlon's phone, which the jury saw for the first time in evidence yesterday.
In the footage, four workers can be seen working on the land.
The four workers - known as wwoofers - had come to the farm under a scheme to get accommodation and food in exchange for accommodation - and have already given evidence in the trial.
The buggy can be seen driving towards the entrance gate of the farm, where there are some workers carrying out work on the gate and travelling to an area on the farm near an old bunker, where Mr Phelan and the wwoofers are clearing an embankment.
Mr Phelan can be seen placing a rifle in another vehicle - a digger - and carrying it in his hand at another point.
Garda Kelly told the jury that the mobile phone footage is taken from the top of an embankment. It looks down towards a man in a hi-vis jacket, whom the jury has been told is Mr Phelan, before panning to a man attending to a dog that has been shot. Mr Phelan's rifle is seen over his shoulder.
The video shows a verbal interaction between Mr Conlon and Mr Phelan, which includes Mr Conlon telling Mr Phelan that "we’re calling the guards now". He also says "you're f****d now mate, watch, this is not the end of it, I'm telling you, you shot the f***ing dog for nothing".
The final segment of the compilation, shows the scene shortly after an emergency call was made to say that a man had been shot.
Mr Phelan can be heard saying he is going to get some first aid as he gets into the buggy.
Detective Garda Kelly told the jury that in the dashcam footage they could see a reflection in the window of the buggy that looked like a black object being held with a white sleeve underneath it.
In the footage, farm worker Hannah Felgner can be seen on a phone.
Mr Phelan drives to the gate and tells those working there to open it, before heading back to the farmhouse.
He goes into the house for less than two minutes before driving off in another vehicle.
The jury has heard he came back to the scene and attempted to administer first aid to Mr Conlon who was lying on the ground.
The trial will continue on Tuesday.
