A 42-year-old man has appeared before Listowel District Court charged with the murder of father-of-seven Thomas Dooley at a graveyard in Tralee in October 2022.

Daniel Dooley, of 15 An Carraigín, Connolly Park, Tralee, Co Kerry, was remanded in custody.

He is the sixth person to be charged with murder in relation to the case.

Thomas Dooley and his wife Siobhán were attacked when they were attending the funeral of a friend at Rath Cemetery in Tralee on 5 October 2022.

Siobhán Dooley was seriously injured. Thomas Dooley died at the scene.

He was a 43-year-old father-of-seven from Hazelwood Drive in Killarney.

Detective Garda John Gilmartin told the court he arrested Daniel Dooley in Wilton in Cork at 7am this morning.

He said Daniel Dooley replied: "I shouldn't be here; I'm an innocent man" when the charge was put to him.

Defence solicitor Patrick Mann said Daniel Dooley was a widower and a father of three who was on Disability Allowance.

He was granted free legal aid and remanded in custody until next Wednesday.
