A 17-year-old boy has been before the District Court at Mallow in Co Cork, charged with dangerous driving causing the death of another teenager in a road crash on the M8 motorway last July.
The youth has also been charged with a number of other counts, including dangerous driving causing serious harm, unlawfully taking a car and endangerment.
Emergency services responded to a two-car collision on the northbound carriageway of the M8 motorway near Mitchelstown in north Cork in the early hours of 1 July this year.
Five people, four teenagers and a woman in her 30s, were injured and taken to hospital.
A fifth teenager, Johnny Foley, 16, from Spur Hill in Cork city and who was travelling in one of the cars, was killed in the crash.

The accused, who cannot be identified because of his age, is facing 12 charges in total, including dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm, unlawfully taking a car and endangerment.
Detective Garda John Murphy of Fermoy Garda Station gave evidence of arresting and charging the accused this morning.
He said he made no reply when each of the charges was put to him.
Judge Colm Roberts granted the teenager free legal aid and assigned solicitor Cathal Lombard.
He remanded him in detention.
