The case against Richard Satchwell, who is accused of murdering his wife Tina Satchwell at their home in 2017, has been adjourned for a further four weeks to allow for the preparation of DPP directions.

Mr Satchwell, 57, was remanded in custody last month after being charged with the murder of Ms Satchwell on 20 March 2017 at Grattan Street in Youghal, Co Cork.

He appeared again in court this morning at Clonmel, via videolink from prison.

The brief hearing heard from Sergeant Tom O'Brien that DPP directions in the case are not ready yet.

Sgt O’Brien applied for a four-week adjournment.

Judge Brian O’Shea told Mr Satchwell on videolink that he would adjourn the case for four weeks if the accused consented to this, or for two weeks if he did not consent.

"I consent," Mr Satchwell said. It was the only time he was called upon to speak during the hearing, during which he was wearing a grey jumper.

Judge O’Shea adjourned the case until 5 December, remanding the accused in custody again.

Mr Satchwell was previously denied bail last week when he made an application at the High Court sitting at Cloverhill Court.

Gardaí objected to bail on that occasion on the grounds that Mr Satchwell was a flight risk. The accused is originally from Leicester in the United Kingdom.

He was initially charged on 13 October with the murder of his wife who was reported missing in March of 2017 and appeared in court two days after Ms Satchwell’s skeletal remains were found at their home on Grattan Street in Youghal.

Tina Satchwell, originally Tina Dingivan, was from Fermoy and the couple married in the UK in 1989 and lived in Fermoy from 1991 before moving to Youghal in 2016.
