Mr Buttimer indicated that the case would proceed to trial at the Central Criminal Court. He stated that a book of evidence would be necessary in the case.

The accused was remanded in custody to appear before Cork District Court again on 27 September.

Mr Wolfe, who was wearing a dark tracksuit, did not speak during the brief hearing. He will appear before video link from prison on his next appearance in court.

Meanwhile, following the death of Mr O’Sullivan a postmortem examination was conducted at Cork University Hospital by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster. The results were not released. However, the case was upgraded to a murder probe.
