The husband of a woman who died after she was attacked in her Dublin home almost three years ago has pleaded guilty to her murder.

Sixty-two-year-old William Eagers, from Willow Wood Grove in Hartstown, Dublin, had been due to go on trial for the murder of his wife Jean Eagers in June 2020.

At the Central Criminal Court this morning he pleaded guilty to murdering his 57-year-old wife at their home on 21 June 2020.

He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 24 March when the court will hear evidence and victim impact statements.

Her husband was arrested and charged with murder and with producing an article in the course of a dispute, namely a samurai sword.

He now faces the mandatory life sentence in jail.
