A swimming coach, accused of making child pornography and sexual exploitation offences at a pool in Dublin, will go on trial in October next year.

Matthew Coward, 31, of Shantalla Drive, Santry, Dublin, was arrested earlier this year and charged with 12 Child Trafficking and Pornography Act offences.

The coach, who is on bail, faces three counts of sexual exploitation of three girls and seven charges for production of child pornography on dates between 1 September 2021 and 26 February 2022 at a swimming pool in Dublin.

There are another two charges for possessing child pornography at another location.

At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today, counsel for the DPP sought an early trial date saying the alleged injured parties were in their teens and were doing State examinations next year and the following year.

Judge Martin Nolan set the case down for trial on 4 October 2023 and ordered the production of victim impact statements.

He was remanded on continuing bail.

At a previous appearance the court was told one of the conditions of bail was that he must not engage in swimming coaching.
