Woman charged with murder of man at house in Wicklow

A 31-year-old woman has appeared in court in Carlow charged with the murder of a man in Wicklow earlier this year.

Nicola Brennan, of no fixed abode, was charged with the murder of Juris Viktorovs, who was found stabbed to death at his home in Ballyconnell in Co Wicklow on 10 February last.

She was remanded in custody for a week.

Mr Viktorovs, 36, was found dead in his home, one of eight houses in a quiet cul de sac in Ballyconnell near Shillelagh in Co Wicklow.

He had been fatally stabbed.

The father-of-two had come to Ireland and lived in Tullow in Carlow for six years before moving to Ballyconnell shortly before his death.

Detective Sergeant Dermot Treacy from Blessington Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution today.

He told the court that he arrested Ms Brennan at Bray Garda Station yesterday and when she was charged with the murder of Mr Viktorovs she made no reply.

Ms Brennan did not speak during the brief hearing.

There was no application for bail, as bail cannot be granted in the district court in a murder case.

Her solicitor Andrew Vallely applied for free legal aid which Judge Geraldine Carthy granted before remanding Ms Brennan in custody to the Dóchas Centre, the female prison at Mountjoy in Dublin.

She is due to appear again at Carlow District Court next Wednesday, 27 July.
