A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 24-year-old man in 2018.
Tyler Jackson, 24, with an address at Ballydaheen West, Mallow, was brought before a special sitting of Mallow District Court this afternoon in relation to the murder of Conor Quinn on 12 July, 2018.
The court heard that Mr Jackson was charged last night after being arrested yesterday at Dublin Airport on foot of an arrest warrant.
Detective Sergeant Hugh Twomey said the accused made no reply to the murder charge in the Garda station.
Solicitor Tim Kennelly, for the accused, said Mr Jackson had been receiving treatment for mental health issues while in the UK recently.
He asked that Mr Jackson be given appropriate treatment while in custody and this was agreed to by Judge Joanne Carroll.
The judge remanded the accused in custody, to appear at Mallow district court next Tuesday by video link from Cork prison.
Mr Kennelly applied for legal aid and the judge said she would deal with this issue on Tuesday.
Mr Quinn was originally from Loughrea in Co Galway, but was living in north Cork in 2018.
He suffered a stab wound during an incident on Bridge Street in Mallow and died later in Cork University Hospital.
