A child who fell into brambles at her Montessori school and was left with facial scars has received an award of €90,000 at the High Court.
Mr Justice Garrett Simons, said the settlement for Cara Faye O'Brien O'Keeffe, who is now six years old, was "very generous" and he had no hesitation in approving it.
In April 2018, when the little girl was three-and-a-half, the court heard she fell into brambles while playing at Deerpark Montessori school in Howth, Co Dublin. She suffered lacerations and abrasions to her face.
She sued through her father, Mark O'Brien, claiming the brambles were allowed to grow at the side of the play area and that she was not supervised at the time.
Her lawyers told the court they were pleased with the offer and were recommending it.
The Court of Appeal had in a separate, somewhat similar, case reduced a lesser settlement after it was appealed, the court heard.
The judge said this was an unfortunate accident in which the child had suffered "quite nasty injuries".
The court heard some of the scars were permanent and a larger scar was unlikely to be improved by surgery.
Although Cara was not conscious of the scars now, she may be in her teenage years, the judge said.
