An elderly man who faced a civil action for causing a nuisance in his locality by feeding wild pigeons at his home in Dublin has made settlement terms with the council.
The feral birds had flocked to a rooftop on the north-side's Manor Street and had taken up residency.
But their droppings on the footpaths and beside homes in Stoneybatter led to locals making complaints.
As a result, Dublin City Council erected a number of signs in the area which state: "Do Not Feed Pigeons Or Other Birds By Order."
Following that, the council initiated legal proceedings against local resident, William Garnermann, last year.
The council claimed he caused a nuisance by feeding feral pigeons at his home and its environs, on Manor Street, in Stoneybatter, Dublin 7.
It was also alleged by feeding the wild birds he is encouraging the keeping of them at his home address.
The case was taken under the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Acts and he was summonsed to Dublin District Court by the council last November.
Following an adjournment, the case was back before Judge Anthony Halpin today.
The council’s barrister told the court that there was consent to another adjournment, until a date in February.
Judge Halpin was told that this was to "allow continued implementation of settlement terms".
Mr Garnermann, represented by solicitor Anarine McAllister, did not have to attend court today but had been present at earlier stages in the proceedings.
Judge Halpin agreed to grant the adjournment.
