A 51-year-old woman has been deemed fit to stand trial on a charge of murdering a man in Dublin two years ago.
Grace Miano, originally from Kenya but with an address at Tudor Lawns in Foxrock, is charged with murdering Malawian national Limbani "Robert" Mzoma, 27, on 1 November 2018, at her home.
Ms Miano was deemed unfit to plead last year but Mr Justice Paul McDermott at the Central Criminal Court, having heard evidence of improvements in her condition from consultant forensic psychiatrist Dr Ronan Mullaney, said that she is now fit to stand trial.
The judge said that all the evidence provided by Dr Mullaney and contained in reports furnished to the court indicate that Ms Miano is able to understand the nature of the court proceedings, instruct her legal representatives and understand the evidence.
Mr Justice McDermott said he is obliged to remand Ms Miano to the Dochas Centre at Mountjoy prison but added that it would be logical and appropriate for her to be moved promptly from there to the Central Mental Hospital where she has been undergoing treatment to date.
He further adjourned Ms Miano's case to 19 October when a date will be set for her trial.
