The Government has nominated former attorney general Séamus Woulfe SC for appointment to the Supreme Court.

Mr Woulfe was attorney general for three years between June 2017 and June 2020.

The vacancy, for an Ordinary Judge of the Supreme Court, arose following the retirement of Hon Ms Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan in June last year.

The Government said it also agreed to nominate Mary Morrissey for appointment as an Ordinary Judge of the Circuit Court.

That vacancy arose following the death of His Honour Judge John Hannan in February.
