The Special Criminal Court is to hear an application by a man accused of kidnapping and attacking  Quinn Industrial Holdings director Kevin Lunney to have the case against him dismissed.

Alan O'Brien, from Shelmalier Road, East Wall in Dublin, is charged with false imprisonment and assault causing serious harm to Mr Lunney at Drumbrade, Ballinagh in Co Cavan last year.

The 50-year-old was abducted on 17 September, 2019, as he drove to his home in Co Fermanagh and severely beaten before he was left on the side of a road in Co Cavan, where he was found by a man passing in a tractor.

Luke O'Reilly, 66, from Mullahoran Lower, Kilcogy, Co Cavan, Darren Redmond, 25, from Caledon Road, East Wall, Dublin and a fourth man, who cannot be named, are also facing similar charges.

Senior Counsel Bernard Condon told the court that Mr O'Brien was "very anxious" to have the case dealt with as soon as possible.

Counsel for the State Sean Guerin asked for an adjournment for three weeks because a "montage" of CCTV footage had to be assembled and supplied.

Mr Justice Hunt put the matter in for hearing for the last week in July.
